We Need You

We have a few amazing parents working VERY hard for KMS, but we need more.

We need you.

Do you think that other parents will take over the lead and that we don't need you?

Because you're wrong.  We need YOU.  KMS is a great place to send your child, but without PTO support our teachers aren't able to do many of the fun things they hope to be able to do.

So, please plan to come to our PTO meeting next Wednesday, December 4th at 8:45 am in the conference center (to the left in the main office, make sure to sign in) so we can make KMS the best place it can be!

Book Fair is Here!

Dear KMS Families,

The “Catching Fire with Books!” Scholastic Book Fair is the week of November 18th- 22nd.
Shopping is before school from 8:15 am – 8:50 am, during lunches, and scheduled Language Arts Times.  This is a great opportunity to pick up some new books before the holidays to keep or give as gifts.

Win a Poster!  Anyone who visits the book fair can enter to win a poster.  There will be a separate drawing for each grade level on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Win a pair of tickets to the Catching Fire Premier!  Anyone who buys a book can enter into the raffle for a pair of movie tickets to the KMS Catching Fire preview on November 20th  at 7:00 pm.  The raffle drawing will be right before school ends on Wednesday.

All for Books Penny War for free popcorn:
All for Books is a Scholastic Program.  The money that is raised will be given to the library to buy books from the fair and Scholastic will donate a book for every $1 raised to one of its charities.  There will be a separate jar for each grade level at the Book Fair.  The grade level that raises the most money wins popcorn at lunch!  This is a good time to clean out the cushions or under the car seats and donate that loose change.

We need your help!  Please sign up to volunteer at the book fair at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0E4EABAE2BA31-catching
Thank you so much for your support!

Exciting Catching Fire News!

The KMS PTO has secured 2 theaters for the premiere of the new Hunger Games movie "Catching Fire". We are thrilled to be able to offer this experience to our students and their families/friends.

Tickets will be, hopefully, for sale at Harvest Festival.  Please share this info with your friends and family as this is a fundraiser to continue all the great programs here at KMS.

Harvest Festival Help

Help, help, we need help!

The Harvest Festival is fast approaching and we need parents to help us carry it out.

This year's festival is going to be bigger and brighter then ever (just like the land of OZ), and helping out at the festival means you can be "with" your kid without being "with" them.  If you catch my drift.  Always good to have eyeballs on what's going on.

Or, you could just help out... whatever your motivation, we NEED YOU!!!!

Signup genius link here.  Please email this blog post to any other KMS friends you have, we need lots of help and we know the KMS parents are willing when they know where to sign-up at!

Candy, Candy Everywhere!

Do you have too much candy at  your house?

Curtis Orthodontics has a great idea that will help you AND KMS!!!!

Today from 3-6 pm, they will buy-back your halloween candy at 1 dollar/pound, and will also DONATE 1 dollar to the school of your choice (obviously, KMS).

So haul those excess unwanted calories over to Curtis and be sure to donate to KMS!

Curtis Orthodontics
3963 W Elliot Rd

As far as we know, you don't have to be a Curtis patient to join in on the buyback.

**Curtis Orthodontics has been extremely generous to the KMS PTO by helping to supply t-shirts and other necessities to our 5k.  But, if your business wants to be promoted on the KMS PTO blog, show us how we can both benefit!

IGive

Here is a great way to make some money for KMS:

Each and every person who joins and makes at least one purchase between October 18, 2013 and November 12, 2013 earns Kyrene Middle School an extra $5. That's in addition to the normal donation amount. It's a great time to ask folks to help your group, simply by shopping.
It's as easy as forwarding this email!

Three important details -

  1. Over 1,350 stores participating. Purchases at Amazon count for a donation,
but not towards the new member bonus.
  2. New iGive members only (never joined before).
  3. They must use your special link we've provided below to join. And they must use iGive to
visit the store (the Button, the iPhone / iPad apps, or links on our site). Returns don't count.
Get the word out today. Ends 11/12/13.

Your friends and family must join and shop by 11/12/13. That means they'll be all set to do their holiday shopping and help Kyrene Middle School at the same time. Every purchase they make can help. They'll feel good, and they'll do good.

The average shopper is raising over $30 a year, and many are raising $100 or $200 a year, at no cost to your cause or to them.
Spread your iGive link everywhere (Facebook's a great way, but Twitter, e-mail, blogs, bulletin boards, and handouts all work).
Use your special link:

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us
at http://support.iGive.com

Good Luck!

KMS McDonalds Night!

Monday, October 21st is McTeacher’s Night at the McClintock and Elliot McDonald’s.  Our enthusiastic teachers and principal will be serving up fun and dinner from 4 to 7 p.m.  KMS earns 20% of all proceeds from inside counter sales with a chance to win an additional $1000!  The school that has the most profitable fundraiser at this newly remodeled McDonald’s in October will be awarded $1000 on top of their earnings.  KMS has an advantage in that we are a large school, so help us earn this money which will be used for teacher and student support.  If you would like to donate directly to the school, stuff the donation boxes next to the registers.

*Note, it's only inside sales -- NOT the drive-thru!

Do You Have a Laptop?

The KMS PTO is in need of a used laptop (or new, we're not picky!).

Instead of a giant cardboard box, we'd like to transfer our financial files via a laptop.  Perhaps you or your business has an old one you're looking to get rid of?  We'd really appreciate it!  Please contact Lisa Firestone or Kendra Benedict (emails on the left).

Thank you!

Friday-Extra Turn in Day for Entertainment Books!

There will be one last day to turn in orders and receive prizes.  We will be in the courtyard before school on Friday, September 27.

Use this opportunity to sell a couple more books if you just missed out on earning the next prize.  We have records of what has already been turned in and we would love to give you the next prize if you sell enough books.

There are some students that did not receive their prizes because we ran out.  Please come Friday morning to get your prizes.

The students who earned the opportunity to spin the money wheel will be notified soon.  We plan to have that scheduled early next week.

If you have any problems getting orders turned in please contact the PTO at kmsfundraiser@gmail.com.  We are happy to work with you to take care of your order.

Time to turn in orders!

It's time to wrap up the Entertainment Book fundraiser!  Please remember that this is the our most important fundraiser of the year and allows us to fund many important projects at KMS.  The PTO is often asked to fund classroom projects so that teachers do not have to pay for necessary supplies out of their personal budgets.  We provide student grants for field trips.  We fund the eighth grade graduation festivities.  These a few examples of how these funds will be used.  The more money we earn the more good we can accomplish this year.  We will also gratefully accept cash donations at any time.

All orders should be turned in by Wednesday.  There will be a table set up in the courtyard before school and at lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 24th and 25th.  Students will turn in their orders and money and receive their books and prizes right away.  Arrangements will be made for a later pickup if a student has too many Entertainment Books to manage.

The student's name will be entered into a raffle for $50 cash for each book they sell.  This is in addition to the fun prizes listed below.  Cash donations also earn a raffle ticket for every $10 donated.

Prizes

Sell 1 book receive a Bling Ring.

Sell 2 books receive Glasses with a Stache.

Sell 5 books receive a voucher for a skinit cover for your phone or ipod.

Sell 10 books receive “Dr. Beat” headphones.

Sell 15 books and spin the money wheel.  Win $10 to $100 in cash.

Sell 20 books and get a life size celebrity standup or squishy pillow pet.

You earn the prizes for each level you achieve.

Please contact kmsfundraiser@gmail.com with questions or concerns.

Entertainment Book Fundraiser FAQ

Purchasing Online

1.    If I purchase online will KMS earn proceeds?  Yes.  The link from www.kmspto.info  to browse coupons is linked to the KMS account.  We also earn money if you buy the mobile version.  The link is to a general KMS account and will not track the name of the student who made the sale.  This means students who would like to earn prizes for online sales need to set up their own account.  To do this, go to https://sellersection.entertainment.com.  The School/Group ID is 66374.

2.    How much are shipping costs for books purchased online?  Shipping is free.  This means that your friends and family around the country can buy the version specific for their area for only $30.

3.    Why isn’t the link to preview coupons working? The Entertainment Book website is working sporadically.  Please check back.  Also, if you would like to request a book to see the coupons in person please click the Request a Book link and fill out the form.

Prizes

1.     What prizes are offered?

Sell 1 book receive a Bling Ring.

Sell 2 books receive Glasses with a Stache.

Sell 5 books receive a voucher for a skinit cover for your phone or ipod.

Sell 20 books and get a life size celebrity standup or squishy pillow pet.

You earn the prizes for each level you achieve.

Each book sold will earn an entry into a raffle for $50 cash.  That means that if you sell 10 books, you get ten chances to win.

2.     When will I receive my prizes?  The prizes will be handed out on the order fulfillment days Tuesday, September 24th and Wednesday, September 25th before school and at lunch at the PTO table set up in the courtyard.  You’ll turn in your money and orders, and receive your books and prizes all at the same time.

Entertainment Book Fundraiser

It’s time for the Entertainment Book Fundraiser!  September 10th-25th.

We would love it if every family committed to selling one book.  We really appreciate the families that support the KMS PTO.  This fundraiser is how we make a lot of great things happen at KMS such as:
•    Teacher grants for class projects
•    Student grants
•    Field trips
•    Graduation dance and Big Surf party
•    Family Science night
•    Character & diversity education
•    School supplies
•    Teacher appreciation week

The Process:
  1. Order form packets are passed out on Tuesday, September 10th.  Books are not passed out to each student this year but they can be requested to help your sales.
  2. Sell.  Sell.  Sell.  Sell from September 10th to September 25th.  Books are $30 and will save you so much more!
  3. Turn in your order form before school or at lunch at the PTO table in the courtyard on Tuesday, September 24th and Wednesday, September 25th.  You’ll get your books and prizes right away.
40% of each book sold supports Kyrene Middle School.  If you would like to support the PTO directly we would greatly appreciate donations.  Please make checks out to KMS PTO.  If you have any questions please email kmsfundraiser@gmail.com

August Meeting Minutes

The August meeting minutes are posted, and I must say they have had a serious update from last year's drab outlines.

You really get a sense of the meeting.

SO, if you weren't able to make it, please check them out here!

**We are trying to save paper, so those who attend the PTO meetings and plan to approve the minutes please read through them before going to the meeting.  We figure it's just less paper for us to fundraise for! :)

Upcoming Night Meeting on Social Media

Are you worried about your kids around the computer?  So am I, and this month's meeting should help educate all of us about the online realities.

Officer Busse will be there to share her information from the police force (so, we're not talking rumors here -- we're talking about what is really happening in our own city).  Officer Busse is great, and really willing to answer almost any questions.  It's nice to know the officer around campus (where she works full time).

It is currently scheduled for 6:30 pm in the Media Center (or library, for those less-media savy).  Any changes in time will be reflected on the calendar.

So, no Morning meeting on September 4th, only a night one.  See you there!

Curriculum Night Change

Just in time to get your school year calendar in order, we have a change in the night for curriculum night.  In the Stinger Update (sent to your home via snail mail) it says there will be different nights for each grade.  However, curriculum night will ONLY be August 15th from 6:30 to 8 pm.  Put it on your calendar (or, if you already subscribe to ours, it's all fixed on there!).

Also, don't forget schedule pick-up On July 31 from 5-7 (7&8 schedules will be in the gym, 6th grade will be in the MPR).

Keep on enjoying your summer!

PTO Calendar

Even though the students are teachers are enjoying their summer, the PTO is hard at work for next year already!

We have integrated the PTO calendar into our website, and you can add it to your own personal device calendar with just a few clicks.

While the dates and times on these items are fairly firm, there may be changes as we get direction from the front office -- if you sync this with your iphone/android it will sync with our changes automatically!  Yay!

Here is a link to how to sync google calendar with your iphone:
http://michaelhyatt.com/how-to-setup-google-calendar-on-your-iphone-4.html

If you already have a google calendar, just click on the +googlecalendar link on the calendar (bottom right), it will open a page up to your own google calendar and then ask if you want to add the KMS PTO calendar.  If you have android, google calendar syncs easily with that.

It's just that simple, you'll know about the harvest festival, conferences, all that -- just by checking your own calendar.  We hope you find it useful.  If there are problems or tweaks, please let us know.

As a reminder, schedule pick up is on July 31 (it's on the calendar).
